This is my second message b/c I don't know where the first one went, lol My question is am I allowed to have more than one license. I am in the process of getting my therapeutic license. I just went through homestudy so I am pretty much done with the exception of my license being received. But the problem is when I first started therapeutic, i did not know that there is a limit of two and they are usually much older children. When i decided to foster I wanted to foster all children but I wanted at least a couple of little ones. Well with being therapeutic that may not happen. So i wanted to know am I allowed to get a county license also b/c I am with agency. I don't want to start over b/c I am pretty much done and if I switch now it may take foreever to go through the process and get any children. I have been waiting to do this forever!!! Does nay one know the answer or have any advice to offer??? Please help??
Thank so much,
Daisy

At least with a "regular" license it is through the state, so you would only need 1 license. If the theraputic allows only 2, is that two special needs children and then whatever space you are allowed for additional? Being licensed for theraputic should mean you can take non theraputic too. If it is 2 period, then no, you can't get another license to add kids of any sort. I'm guessing by the way, no nothing about this! Hopefully someone will answer who knows specifically about this topic.

Having a therapeutic license means that you can only have two. But they can always make exceptions. No you can not have more than one license. When a child gets placed it goes to the DCS, who then places the child(ren). I would love to say that the DCS takes the children in consideration when placing, but most of them will automatically place with the county. Weather they are special needs or not. It's cheaper that way. I am therapeutic and I was considered for sibling groups of 4, so 2 isn't necessarily all that you are going to get. I don't know what county you are in, but the county I am in doesn't place to many kids, or remove them for that matter, so I haven't gotten any calls. Been licensed since March. As for getting younger children... It's always possible, but not likely with therapeutic. Therapeutic gets more of the kids that has been in the system for longer and that is harder to place. Be it for their mental, physical, or emotional needs. Good luck and if you want to PM me, I would love to talk to another therapeutic licensee.
