I knew that thread was going to heat up as soon as I saw the first post yesterday. I wasn't surprised by the direction it went in or the things stated except for Erica. Wow. I can safely say I've not once ever hear of the term "skinhead" being offensive. I think she is confused.I posted on that issue, but left the monkey issue alone. The Monkey Business has been discussed ad naseum over the years and it will never be resolved. They'll end up getting the thread closed at some point I'm sure.I posted.
Actually here, skinheads are usually proud members of the natzi party, and or the KKK which does still exist in the south. I am not sure if they call themselves skinheads or if that is just what others call them. Mostly it's the natzi people because they tend to keep thier hair cut very short and if thier hair happens to be blond they look pretty much bald. I think the poster called the child that instead of using the term bigot.
Rainey - I just have a hard time thinking she'd call a kid a skinhead if he wasn't one. It's not hard to miss this group, kwim? They are very vocal and make their appearance fit to the group's "normal". If it's just a kid calling another kid a name, I would call them a bigot, racist, bhole, etc. but not a skinhead, because skinheads are a very defined group. So that's why I'm having a hard time seeing it. If she comes back though and says she just called the kid that name and he wasn't really a skinhead, then she will need to be edited for that.

i don't think i'd even be offended if someone called my white kid a cracker. but i did chuckle a little when one of the posters said if someone called her kid a cracker she wouldn't clear out all the saltines from her pantry. i know that's not the point....but i did laugh at the visual. ;)
