Just heard from the person who is in charge of the MAPP classes. She said that they are going to be talking with everyone who is signed up for the classes and then be more selective about who will be able to take the classes this September in order to meet the need of the children in the system.
I'm worried. We're very open in our age range; a sibling group age 3-11. can go a little higher or lower if necessary, but I'm still worried. If we don't make "the cut" than where do we go from there? Can we go to another county. I'm in Marion county and I don't know where else to look. Any Ideas?
I am in St. Lucie County and we just started our MAPP classes yesterday. We had people from four counties, and they did not seem to have any screening process to see who was able to attend the classes.

We were able to finish MAPP classes. We actually just finished them last week and we're starting our home study on the 28th!! Everything has been going great so far!
Well that is a relief! I wonder if they were just looking to see who was truly commited to the classes because I know many people go through and quit. I hope there is no screening involved when it's our turn! Glad that everything is going good!
We finished our MAPP and just had our first home study today! It was really easy. Our caseworker said the goal for having our homestudy signed and completed is January 26th!

I'm going through the foster care system through Youth and Family alternatives. We're hoping to adopt 1-3 children ages 3-12.
Rachelle - that's great!!! We had our first one on the 28th. Its just questions about us, so yeah pretty easy. I was nervous though. I still am, its an exciting process! Not sure when our home study will be done. We're moving closer to town next we, so our move is slowing it down a bit. But we have our second home study meeting on the 11th.
Good Luck! we finished our classes 10/26 and just got a call to start the homestudy 1/11. kinda slow here lol
I am very nervous about the homestudy :o/ lol
We will have to move as well. We are a family of six with a 2 bedroom house because our four boys are 6 and under and share a room but not sure if we will need 3 or 4 bedrooms because we are adopting a girl and of course she will need her own room but not sure what they will say about our four boys sharing a room.

Seminole County is really slow too! I have been waiting to take these classes since July of 2010. They start tomorrow.
I am praying that the process is not long to get certified. I already have a placement homestudy completed but I understand Foster Care homestudy is separate.
We finalliy finished our homestudy, and are expecting to have it signed and finalized by the end of next week! I'm so excited. We already have some beautiful children in mind that we want to inquire about. I know it can take months if not years, and I may submit inquiries on 100 and hear back from one, but I'm really hoping for things to go smoothly.
We just went last night for the orientation and was told the next class doesn't start until June... :( Was hoping to get into the class that just started so we could be on our way. Do you know if they ever let anyone in one class late and make it up next time or do they usually stick to the class is full and there is no room for you?
Hello, I am in the process of becoming a lic. foster parent in order to help my neice that has been in foster care for years, I will be starting the MAPP/PRIDE classes soon. What exacly is the home study, and is there more than 1. Do I have to complete the classes before it is done? She is in a different state, but I have been dealing with someone here already, and already have the background & fingerprints done.
:thanks::flower:

Hi.. Our homestudy was done near the end of our MAPP classes and it did consist of 2 visits. You will be given all of the requirements during the MAPP class for things such as CPR, Health Inspector, and any other requirements required beyond the background check and fingerprinting. Ironically getting the homestudy paperwork done by the agency is taking longer than everything else we have done, hopefully this will not be the case for you considering you have a neice that you are trying to get placement of. Good Luck!
I hope everything has gone well with your niece and your classes. Your home study generally starts after the classes and are done in order of the current need. If you are wanting to adopt special needs (medically, physically, siblings, or over the age of 8) than your home study will most likely be done before someone who wishes to adopt a healthy child under 5.
In your case, because you are wanting to adopt a family member, your home study will (if it hasn't already) be put at the top of the list.
Good luck with everything!!
