if you travel to korea for your adoption...you will see these sold by lots of street vendors. i lived in korea for one year....and this was by far the food i looked forward to the most. :) i ate it every saturday on the way to the orphanage to hold newborns. :) it was my favorite day of the week!

this is by far the best bulgoi/ galbi marinade recipe that I've come across. If you don't live near by an Asian store for the meat, I would suggest a good cut of meat and cut into strips.
1/2 cup soy sauce
2/5 cup sesame seed oil
1 tbs sherry wine
2/5 cup sugar
3 tbs scallions chopped
1 tsp ginger minced
1 tsp garlic minced
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 tsp sesame seed powder (optional)
2 lbs. thinly sliced beef, bulgogi meat or galbi meat
Mix the above ingredients together except meat. Marinate the meat in sauce at least 3 hours or overnight in refrigerator. Grill out for best taste.
Serve with rice and kimchi or salad as a side. Yum!
Thanks K - I'm going to H Mart today and I'm going to try to make the bulgogi this weekend!
Mommy to Eli - I'm excited to try that sweet treat! Yum!
The easiest thing to make is Kim Bap (think Korean sushi)!
You can buy the seaweed wrappers.
Make sticky rice (we've found making rice in the rice maker does the best job)
Spread the rice on the seaweed wrappers
Cut your fillers into vertical strips. Here's a list of possible fillers:
carrots, bulgogi/ground beef, hot dog, pickled radish, imitation crab meat, spinach, avocado, cucumber
We did carrots, cucumber, and something else (I think pickled radish). We had imitation crab meat but forgot to get it out and it was delicious as is!
Put vertical strips onto each rice spread wrapper then roll. Cut into pieces. Dip in soy sauce and enjoy!
Thanks for sharing! I can't wait to try these out!
I have a cookbook by a Korean adoptive mom and she includes some Korean recipes. I don't know how authentic they are, but I'll copy some down when I get a chance.
old kimchi (5ish months old)
spam (yes, spam) cut into cubes
green onions
onion (chopped up)
put it all in a pot
boil the water
serve.
