I am adopting my 2 boys from TX and even though I am not sure who is bringing them home on the plane yet (me or the caseworker or both), I am trying to think of how to make it the best trip possible. I am going to talk to the caseworker and therapists about getting the boys familiar with the idea ahead of time so it is not awful (hopefully). Both boys have autism and as far as I know, were never on a plane before. Anyone have experience flying with their kids with autism? What was the hardest part? What did the kids like? What helped make the trip better? Would you ever do it again (though my only other alternative is about 25 hours in a car or a few days on a train)?

No experience at all with planes with B, but I've heard that Texas has to bring the children to you and physically place them in your home. So, not sure if driving would be an option? I would think the caseworker would be the one to make the trip with them, so hopefully she's trying to prepare them as well! Do you know when they get to come home yet??

We have flown three times with our son. He is a screamer :) Fun.Honestly, we bring movies he is big on and he just watches those and we hope for the best. We do not interrupt his stimming on the plane unless it involves screaming. We bring lots of "fidgets" and lots of treats and the portable DVD player. It has gone okay each time. The WAITING to get on the plane is much harder for him and has been very challenging.I would write a social story with them in it...
my son does not have autism....but he has lots of behaviors and sensitivities that are similar. one thing he can not stand is repeated loud noises. and planes are LOUD! he was horrible on planes, until i thought to bring his sound reducing ear phones. he wore them this last time and was an angel!Amazon.com: Peltor 97070 Junior Earmuff, Black: Home Improvement
