Our son is 7 weeks old. We are in the beginning stages of what I consider to be a very open adoption. We love our sons birth mother so much. We have become very close and she's quickly becoming part of the family. Open adoption has brought us a lot of joy and also stress thus far. The joy definitely outweighs the stress. I'm trying to study and research as much as I can. We want to do what is best for all involved. Most of all we want what is best for our son. If any of you have advice to offer, I'm all ears. This week has been a bit stressful and I'm quickly realizing that my friends and family cannot relate. I feel as if I have nobody to share my adoption joys and frustrations with. I'm also interested in purchasing some books about open adoption. Please let me know if you have any suggestions. Thanks! I know that I can learn a lot from many of you.
I have a very open adoption also..I talk to your kids BM almost everyday on email or text & BD a few times a month. Your adoption is very new yet being he is only 7 weeks..give your friends and family time to get used to all of this..express your feelings to them and soon they will start to understand (just know they will NEVER fully understand, unless u live it you dont understand it). My son is now 19 months and my daughter is 6 months..so I am still new at all of this too! There are times I am shocked at what people say to me, but I try and keep my cool and educate them. hang in there things will only get better!

Glad to hear you are having such a great open adoption experience. Friends and family will never truly understand all the feelings involved with open adoption so do your best to educate them. Express your feelings and tell them what makes open adoption so special and how having this open relation with his bmom will benefit your child as they grow up. I had to do this with my mom when we first adopted our son and after explaining how vital the relationship with our sons bmom she has been very supportative! Good luck and above all congrats!
