This just happened last night less than a block away from where my cousin lives.
I just do not know how anyone could do this to an animal much less a newborn!!!

(NECN: Tom Langford, East Boston, Mass.) - An abandoned newborn baby was found in a dark, cold alley last night in East Boston, Massachusetts.
This morning, the mother has been located, and the two men who found the baby can't believe someone would abandon a newborn.
Luis Recinos and Pedro Castenada heard a crying noise from outside their apartment home, found the baby outside and called police.
Recinos said, "I just wrapped it in a blanket because it was really cold. I didn't even look to see if it was a boy or a girl."
Castenada said, "the first time I heard it, I thought it was an animal. Like a cat or something like that. But when he was still crying, I went outside."
Recinos wrapped the baby in a blanket and held him until an ambulance arrived.
He says, the baby still had its umbillical cord attached.
"It still had blood and all the stuff on its head. I think it was born just a few hours before that happened."
Castenada said, "I don't know how somebody could do that to the poor baby."
Recinos added, "I think its really sad. How can people do that, just drop a baby? I don't know. I don't know how they could do that. Its really sad."
The baby was taken to the hospital to be checked out.
This morning, police say he is healthy.
The mother was also taken to the hospital for treatment.
It is not clear if she will face criminal charges.

Even more infuriating is there will be NO charges filed against the 18 yr old mother.
Now I ask you, who and what is a justifiable reason to leave a newborn baby cold, naked alone in a filthy dark alley? I cannot think of anythiung that would be non criminal about this.
Oh there was a fire station little less than a block away where that baby could been taken to safe haven.
I pray that this baby is blessed with parents that love and want him and will protect him from harm. Obviously his bmom failed miserably.

This event is similar to many such events that have been reported over the years. I remember one in which the young mother gave birth at prom in the ladies' room, put the baby in the trash can, and went back to the dance floor. This Boston mother was most likely in a disassociative state and may have simply walked away from the birth. News reports have noted that no one was aware that she was pregnant. This condition and result is understood and known in psychology. Safe havens established because of these events are of little to no value in preventing them because the person giving birth does not have the connection to reality and mental capacity at the time to act on such knowledge. The phrase "no one in their right mind could do this" is exactly correct. Mothers who do this are not in their right minds.
So sad for her and the baby. But so wonderful that neighbors heard and acted quickly to save this child's life. I am glad he is alive to enjoy the life which I hope protection and care brings to him. I am glad the young mother will not someday wake up to the horror that her baby died because of her--because he didn't. In these things, I think they are both fortunate.
I was thinking about this as they were talking about it in work. Then I saw the last post about being in a dissociative state. That makes sense cause she had to be out of her mind. I understand that but most people's react as tough she should be punished but she has already lost the chance of raising this baby so maybe when she comes to back to reality she will appreciate the consquenses of her actions.
OTOH, so many crimes could be said to be committed because of a person being "not in their right mind" yet they recieve legal consequence. This is just so sad on so many levels.
Yes both mother and baby both lucky to be alive as she herself could have very well lost her life and was very much in need of medical attention herself.
