So I am an amom of 3 babies and I absolutely love florida! I have never been so happy in my life. I've been here about 14 years or so, give or take. There are a few problems I see though.
Our population is so old and sort of transient. Everyone seems to move in or out, change houses, change towns, go to NC or someplace and then come back.
I want my babies to have a sense of stability. Nobody around here seems to have any connection or committment to the place and most aren't originally from here.
Also, I am from rural NY state, but close enough proximity to a big city up there. The cultural things such as museums and big theatres and concert halls cannot be beaten. There are opportunities to see things like shakespeare in the park, art and science museums, yada yada yada. Of course, we have the beach. But I feel my babies may be missing out a little on what I got to enjoy growing up. I can't think of any good museums in the state. I've been to some in Miami and they aren't good. Also that MOSI in Tampa... what a joke. That one is pathetic. I may have to fly them up north sometimes just to take advantage of better cultural type activities.... and that can become quite expensive with the 3 babies and husband!
What do you all do?
I'm not trying to hate on the place... I do love it here. Especially being able to see the sun once in a while in the winter and enjoying the out of doors all year! :-)
Florida is Awsome. I was born and raised in Florida, moved to upstate rural NY and had to come back "home". There are great advantages to Florida, such as the weather, the beaches and the history here. For Museums, my family took family road trips every summer and that is where I got to go to the Smithsonian and several other glorious places. I will never forget seeing CATS on Broadway, but will never trade that 1 event for the Florida lifestyle.
I would suggest signing up for the smithsonian magazines and take advantage of the historical places in florida and then take trips occassionally or over the summer to NY.
