Hello Everyone. I usually post and reply on the Foster Support Forum. I'm here because my subject seemed foreign to them!
We've fostered our FD since day 3 of her life and she's now 31 months. She's bonded to us. BM surrendered in Oct. of this year. BD has worked up to 4 hours per week after coming into the picture at 9 months. He claims he did not know, but has made some statements that contradict that statement (I wanted to get through rehab first...). FD is now sober, but he has other limitations. He is just above MR on the intelligence scale, he's had anger management issues, and they keep alluding to his mental health issues. Regardless, he keeps pushing. FD used to sob and then go into a disassociative state during visits. She only complains now and is engaging with him.
He has filed for a termination of placement. What is that? Our SW and FD's lawyer just said it's something he has a legal right to do. Will FD be removed? I think she'd have a complete breakdown if someone tried to remove her.
I should also mention she's been diagnosed with clinical anxiety and SPD (Sensory Perception Disorder). We've tried to get BD aware and help him with how to respond to her well, but he is illiterate and he has no recall, so it's really difficult to teach him (and I'm a teacher!).
Please help us understand how termination of placement can and might turn out.

I have heard of that. I would ask your social worker for details, if you can trust your social worker to tell the truth. Usually when that is filed the person is asking that the child be removed from their current home and placed somewhere else. It gets really tricky if that person is somehow related to the child. The judge is supposed to rule on what is in the "best interest of the child", but often birth family "rights" trump common sense.
Isn't that a shame, that "birth family rights trump common sense." But, it sure seems like that is the case frequently. That is one thing that concerns me about becoming a foster parent. However, I did go to the first informational meeting last night and my husband and I are going forward to do it!
I hope this poor little dear of years does, indeed, have her interests best met. Will pray for all of you! :-)
