I am not sure which thread I should post this in so I'll try here!
I am wondering if anyone has had any luck with obtaining medical records? I have contacted the hospital that I was born in and requested a form to obtain my medical records from my birth. I know it's a long shot since I do not know what name my records would be under. I have tried everything I can think of to get more information about my birth parents and have hit one brick wall after another so I guess I'm reaching now to see if someone might slip up!
Any suggestions, experiences, or information would be greatly appreciated!

In order to get medical records from anyplace, you must have the name of the person and present proof that you are them with valid id. Few of us can do that. They will not give you records based on a dob. On the other hand, I was reunited 18yrs ago, pre internet, because I found an angel who figured out a way to get to the old Labor & Delivery log books where I was born, to look up my b parents names. Those kind of angels are hard to find. Shortly after those old records were packed up and moved to who knows where for off site storage.

I was able to obtain non-ID medical records from the hospital where I was born by sending their records dept. a notarized letter that included my social security number and date of birth - since I did not have a name to give them.
The hospital already knew that I was adopted so they sent me records from my time of birth until I was released to the adoption agency three days later - any identifying information was blacked out. It is doubtful that you will find someone who "slips up" in the records dept. because your records are likely flagged somehow to reflect the fact that you're adopted & that certain information must be withheld.
Unfortunately, non-ID medical records from a hospital are generally useless - they're nice to have, though, you know? They didn't provide any information to me, however. Mine did include my biological "mother's" fingerprint, but that would only be of use if she had her fingerprint on file with the state, i.e. for work purposes or if she'd been arrested.
These records did not provide any information re: biological medical history.
Hmm That is interesting and good to know. maybe because I was a 1950s birth, pre social security #s being applied for at birth. Maybe the identifying factor was that soc #. I did have my birth last name but since my id was a different name than my birth name, they would not release anything to me. I even went in person but again- that was back in the early 1990s in MD.

Shortly before I was reunited face-to-face with my son, I was able to obtain copies of all of our medical records, including his nursery records. I really lucked out though...I had a long heartfelt discussion with the director of medical records at the hospital he was born in, and it turned out she was an adoptive mom who had no medical records on her child's birth. It also helped that, by conicidence, she knew my son's aparents and my son volunteered at the same hospital. She ended up sending me a copy of the records and giving my son's adad a copy that also included his original birth certificate. She was truly an angel!

Just an FYI - my current SS# is not on any of my medical records from the hospital. I was assigned a temporary SS#, and that is what is on my medical records from birth to day 3 from the hospital. Somehow, they figured out which records were mine using the information I have now..you can tell that someone wrote my current SS# on my records after I requested them. I didn't have a SS#, etc. either until my adoption was finalize in 1986, when I was two.
