I just received my original birth certificate from MA on Saturday. I was excited to see who was my original birth mother and hopefully look her up.
I have the name and after a little while of looking online I thought I found her but I think my excitement was a little premature. My birth mother put 18 as her age on my certificate and the woman I found would have had to have me at 16 for it to have been her. It's possible but I'm pretty sure it's not her.
I am pretty good at finding people online using different tools like Zaba search and various sites but I haven't had any luck. I did find a marriage record in San Francisco from 1975 the first and last name were a perfect match and the middle initial is the same. The birth year was exactly right if she was 18 when I was born.
Any suggestions where to look? In my research I found many pay sites that say they can help but I'm finding you can pay a small fortune with little results this way.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Have you tried ancestry or other geneological sites for family trees and public index or newspaper listings?

I've tried ancestery but just knowing her name I couldn't get too far. I did find the marriage info on archives.com and it wasn't too much for a yearly subscription. I looked at some newspapers but some of their arvhives don't go back to far for the smaller papers.
Hi,
Just a case and point, some records/info not always accurate in historical recordings re: adoption. However, you have a name and a range of ages. You have a lead. I would not suggest paying anyone yet. You have lots of resources at your fingertips. Are you registered with ISSR? Have you thought of an intermediary contact of the woman you believe may be your birth mother? Something to remember, the person on the other side needs time to catch up with us and sometimes, they have been unable to share...dont' get discouraged if you find this is the right person and you need to let time settle a bit..I once suggested a b.m and her daughter set up a p.o. box to communicate until she felt comfortable telling her family. It worked out for years. Public records, marriage, death records make great searches. Can you find a search angel in CA or through Blue Book connections who may pick up the search for you at current location or serve as intermediary? Please keep us posted. Don't give up. You have so much info available..I think the trail is very warm...

I'm sorry I meant to update this. I took a couple days off because it was becoming an obsession and started fresh. Using Facebook and a few websites I found her. She was living less than a mile from an apartment I had about 8 years ago.
We are scheduled to meet for diner tonight Dec 29th.
Thanks for the kid words and encouragement.
Wow! so glad you posted back. I wish you the best of luck with your reunion. I'd be happy to share. I've been reunited for over 15 years and have helped with over 350 reunions..Go slowly, breathe deeply and keep open hearts and minds. Sometimes, today is all we get and while history can be important, it is often not so much in the moment and in what can be...feel free to email and let us know how things went. I am emailing the day after your first meeting. Take care. RJB
