Hi,
I am writing to ask if you can adopt domestically if one parent receives social security disability benefits? The disability is a bladder disease where the patient has to self-catheterize in a clean, sterile environment (which limits the parent from working since they can't control the environment), however the disorder does not prevent the parent from taking care of a child.
Does anyone know if there is a federal law concerning this?
Thank you for your input.

I don't know about the laws/ regulations, but I do know someone who adopted when one parent recieved disability. Most agencies want to know that you will be able (physically and emotionally) to care for a child and that you can afford to do so. Different agencies may have different rules as to what they require; you will need a medical statement of some sort (varies by agency) that you are healthy enough to parent. It may be helpful in some ways, since you will have one stay-at-home parent (I've heard of some agencies requiring this and some birthmothers prefering it).
