I am an adoptee looking for my birth mother. I was born August 1st, 1987 (8/1/87) at Beverly Hospital, Beverly, MA. Told my birth mother was in her teens. Went through North Shore Jewish Family Services. I have no idea what her name or last name could be. I do know she was from around the North Shore area of Massachusetts. I am just looking for a possible name..It would be nice to have that in order to figure out any inherited diseases/family history, etc. I'd also like to know my real nationality because I was told I am Irish, Danish, and quarter Black, but I am convinced I am Native American, if that is the case, it would help with my school.
If any 'angels' could be of help I would truly appreciate it. I don't really want to inform my adoptive parents yet because I'm not sure if I will contact her yet. I just really feel uncomfortable calling up the adoption agency because I don't want to go through the whole awkward exchange between someone who thinks they know eevvveeerything about adoption. I am happily adopted, it would just be nice to have the actual name.. and I am a broke college student so I can't really afford a P.I right now.
If anyone could help, I'd truly appreciate it.

I don't know if it's a national policy, but at least some states allow an adoptee access to their adoption files so they can establish what tribe they're part of. (I'd think you may have to get a DNA test to show them you're of Native American blood, though, first).
Perhaps what you want to do is join a support group for adoptees (such as the ALMA Society) so you can get ideas from other locals who've had to go through the systems you'll be facing (if you still live in the county your adoption was finalized in)

Requesting non-identifying information from the Department of Vital Records (or who ever it is who handles it) is not a big deal in MA. You fill out a simple form and mail it in.
They will send copies with last names, etc. whited-out....but office employees are only human, and they can make mistakes. They might not white-out all the vital info you're looking for, and that would give you more to go on.
