I am just trying to figure out if there is a "standard" for this.
When a bio goes to a scheduled visit, does DYFS pay for their transportation? Only if they take public transportation? Pay for Gas? Pay a standard rate for "milage"? Only pay if the travel is excessive?
What does DYFS do in your case?
Thanks
Not understanding: why is DYFS paying for "bio" child? 2 placements ago (about 6 years), DSS had transporters who picked kids up and bought them home. Last placement was done on weekends as there were no more transporters.

Sorry - I guess I was not clear. I mean for the Bio PARENT. Does DYFS pay for the parent's travel expenses to attend a visit?
Visits are done in a DYFS office, mom has to go to the office by car or by public transportation.
Yes! In ocean county atleast...if a parent were to go in to a court hearing and site transportation issues as a factor as to why they have not been able to complete there case plan, DYFS would be responsible for not providing them with services... for that reason, DYFS must provide them with transportation from a case aid, provide them with bus or train passes, or reimburse gas milagage if they are in need...but, also bc of this, MANY organizations that are state funded now provide their own transportation for clients as well.
With my 2yr old placement, DYFS provided the transportation to and from the visit.
They picked her up from daycare, and dropped her back off for each visit.
We were never asked to provide the transportation for visits.
(Sorry, I just read the other replies. I'm not sure about transportation costs for the BIO-M)
Here (WA state) they provide monthly bus passes to the parents. I don't think they reimburse for mileage as a general rule, but I suppose it could happen. And kiddo gets picked up-supervised-dropped off by a paid transporter for visits. LOVE that part!

Z's case was in Essex County. Birth Mom received a free bus pass each month. It took DYFS years to figure out that she also got free bus passes from another organization and was selling the one from DYFS for some cash each month.
MANY of my cases, DYFS transported the bioparents themselves... at least in Somerset and Hudson counties. We've had birthparents in Warren county that had their own transportation.

Since our fd is classified as medically fragile, I must drive her to visits, she can't have a driver. So I drive her to our local DYFS office and the bio parents get a ride with a driver from their county.
DYFS pick up FS from daycare and bring him back there. What drives me crazy is when the relative does not confirm visit, which is then cancelled, but then dyfs don't bother letting the daycare know when they have got him all ready to be picked up and waiting and wondering if he is still going to get picked up.
