My Athena and Selena occasionally have braids. Athena is 2 and a half, and Selena 15 months. Their hair isn't all that long or thick so the braids aren't big they are really tiny. I don't want to put a lot of beads in. Most recently they had braids done by a professional but the person had no hair accessories to use. What I need is something that will look cute but will give the braids a little more weight because they are so light that sometimes they stick straight up or straight out. Barrettes come out and so do the cloth hair ties with bows. I tried wrapping the ends around the barrettes but they still came out. Maybe something with velcro, or do you have any other ideas? I would be so happy if I could find something that will stay and is less likely to end up in baby Selena's mouth!
I'll attach some pics of the braids so you can see what I mean (and also how cute she looks, lol!!) These are mostly of Athena.
are they bad at pulling barretts out and putting them in the mouth? I've never really questioned what I put in L's hair because she leaves it be....but are they old enough for those barretts that snap? you bend them back to open and then snap them shut?
Oh btw, did you recently buy that sweater at the 'children's place?" L has one similar! :)

Hey Dannie, I think I know which barrettes you mean... something like these? 50mm Oval Snap Clips - 144 Pieces - 50mm Snap Clips
They might work if they were small enough. I'll have to see if I can find some. The usual ones are just too big and would probably smack Athena in the face the way she jumps around!
And as a matter of fact we did get the sweater at children's place, along with the purple pants which I must say are very well made, although unfortunately we got them just before they went on sale. (why does that always happen to me?!!!) :-)

We use these Goody elastics that have beads on them - they don't come off for her or other toddlers but they do come off easily for me. (We got in trouble with snaps when 0ne of the other toddlers took one off of E and tried to eat it!)
I got them at walmart. We have purple, pink, red, yellow, turquoise, and clear - which she is actually wearing today. The plastic beads are flower shaped. The best part is that these are reusable!
She kisses herself in the mirror whenever she gets them put in her hair:love:
OMG sissy, her hair looks sooo adorable!!!! She's a beauty, I can see that from just what you showed here.
My walmart doesn't have those (believe me, I've scoured the section many times and probably have 3 sets of each barrette and hair band they carry!!) so I'm going to look at a bigger/different walmart. Thanks! :-)
I swear I've seen them smaller....do you guys have Target? I ask because I don't know how it is there, but where I live, Target has way more choices for hair and since our suburb/town has a high %age of ethnic women the selections are good.

Right, I totally think it is regional - where I live - Walmart has the best selection, in fact I just found the turquoise ones at a different walmart last week so we grabbed 2 packs - who knows when I will see them again. At Target, they just have this one color combo of the three sizes of elastics - and they are not cute - I don't even know little girls who wear those colors...
These are actually pretty small, it's just they are doubled up all across her head- and she is pretty little - about L and Selena's age, I think

It's amazing how different stores differ depending on where they are at.....I have to laugh because I love all things hair for L, and so she has quite the drawer full of bows, bands, clips, snaps....too much, but it's so colorful and cute here at the store!
I like to use really small barrettes called snaps. I've never had a problem with these coming out - I just wrap the ends in the hinged side. Hopefully that just made sense. :) This website is a great resource for hair baubles - Hair Snaps
Mnmomma, those are cute!!! The ones I have are a variation on that but maybe a little bigger, and they came out after a short time. Maybe if I put them at the base of the braid or partway up so the teeth can go into the braid it'll work better.
Dannie, I have the same problem! Every time I see hair stuff it's something I just HAVE to have, even if there are 50 more similar ones at home! That would account for the 14 purple headbands, 32 pink ones, 12 white and 20 in different shades of blue. Never mind that they won't keep them on for more than a few seconds!!
Thanks for the recommendations!! :-)

They have mini barrettes on the snaps site that might work. Even if you are not a bead fan, a couple of black beads at the end of each braid wouldn't be noticable and they add good weight.
You can also find mini hair clips (aka snaps), barrettes, and other accessories at this site:
