Is there a way to find out? I hate to think this, because if true, it would be heart breaking.Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

I wasn't adopted, Looking for my sister..she was born in Mississippi. I believe the the adoption was also finalized in Mississippi.
Mississippi has one of the more reasonable closed records laws. From my skimming of it, unless her (birth) parents filed an affadavit denying her the info she can request her records be opened (must do counseling) and they will do a search for the (birth) parents to approve her getting her records. So your sister can try that if she is 21. Note if there is an affadavait on file refusing her you could always ask them to do a SSI death index search to confirm if they are still alive.
If she is not 21 but you are you can request her non-id but that won't answer your quesiton.
The link gives you the law and who to contact.

Yesterday I called the court who handles adoptions in the specific county of where my sister was born. I told the clerk that I was looking for non ID information and she told me that the Judge had sealed all the records.
So what did this mean? Does it mean I have to write to the judge and ask him if I can have the info? I'm confused on this part.
And does it matter that she's over the age of 21?
Thanks,
Kim
The clerk may have been blowing you off as a sibling or simply being incredibly lazy...
Have your sister call and ask how to obtain both her non-id and identifying info and that any forms and requirements be sent. If she gets no response have her send a certified letter requesting it.
Kind regards,
Dickons

I checked a couple of other posts and got the impression that Kimberley's sister had been adopted out at birth and that Kimberley is hoping to find her and is worried she has passed away.
If this is the case, is your mum able to obtain the information or is this not feasible.
If you are a biological sister than you are entitled to the non-id according to how the law is written. the clerk probably had never had a request and is clueless about the law.
You should be able to, or your mother can place a letter in the file in case your sister contacts the state stating you guys are open to contact.
What else have you done?

I haven't done much, Just been searching..I recently printed out a ISRR form, but I might wait to send that in, until I talk to the clerk again.
Last time I talked to her she said all the records were sealed by the Judge, but I read her the laws and it's like she didn't even care. So I'm determined to call back and ask a superior what the deal is.

I worry about the same thing as I am 52 and my birth mom would be 68. But I had a massive heart attack 10 years ago and my cardio doctor said it's possible she would be at an early age too.
