Does anyone know of any instances when the Chinesse government waived the marriage length for a couple who had one divorce in their past? We have been married 3 1/2 years and a few agencies told us that China might consider waiving the 5 year requirement if we adopted a special needs child...which we were going to do anyway. I just want to know if I'm getting my hopes up...or if this has happened before. Thanks for your time.

We have been married 2 years but have been together for nearly 5. We contacted several agencies to see who would work with us and found one who would. We are using the China SN program - we don't qualify for the regular China program because of our marriage length. The Chinese Central Adoption authorities have given us a pre-approval for a little boy with what we consider to be a very mild special need. I woudl consider ourselves to be about halfway through...we have our HS this month and have just finsihed gathering all of our dossier documents.
I'm pretty inexperienced, but I would say it is possible, if you meet/exceed all other requirements. If you want to PM me, I can give you some info on the agency we are using and our experiences with them so far.
