I have a baby that I am in the process of adopting. She was born with only 1/3 of a brain. She is teething but I cannot give her anything except tylenol because we are teaching her to feed from a spoon, so we cannot numb her mouth. She hates anything cold. Any ideas on what to do to help her out? She is crying all day and there is nothing that I can do to really calm her. It breaks my heart so bad. She is not eating well (food or milk), I have tried everything I know. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I was wondering, is there any way you could let the learning to feed from a spoon go for now? If she's not eating well, and crying all day? Just use whatever method would get some food into her? Trust me, I know nothing about such children, it's just an idea because the thought of her in pain hurts my heart.
Hyland's Teething Tablets or Gel Hyland's Homeopathic - Teething TabletsThey won't numb the gums but it will help. Also, Chamomile Tea worked for my daughter. I added just a little bit of sugar to make it sweet enough for her to like it.

Thank you all. The motrin and teething tablets have seemed to be working. She has cut 3 teeth within a week. She is still a little fussy but not nearly as bad as she was. Again thank you. She will be 2 in july I was beginning to wonder if she had any teeth. One more question if you dont mind. My dd's therapist wants to go ahead and order her wheelchair. They are coming out to fit her soon. She has poor trunk and head control so a stroller isnt really safe for her she is not supported right. She is just 20lbs. She will be 2 in July so she is still really small. My question is how hard is it to take apart and put it back so that it can fit in my car. I have a suv but need to get it in the shop. It may take a little bit for me to get it fixed depending on when the man can get to it. So for the time being I only have my car.
Glad to hear she is doing better!
I admit I know nothing about them, but would it be possible to get her a special needs stroller? I don't know cost, or if it would be covered by insurance, etc. but I see people with them and it seems like it would be a much easier alternative at her age and size. And more portable.
Just a thought!

I have started giving her a little orajel too. I have the special needs stroller. However the one I ordered is not a great fit for her and to be honest I just dont have another 5-600 to spend on a stroller. She has very poor (no) trunk and head control and even with the support that the stroller does give her she is still not supported the way the wheelchair will support her. Where I live we have a great system for special needs children called birth to 3. They will pay for the wheelchair. Her theraphist said that they could order another stroller but it would basically be the same as I ordered myself and then she wouldnt be able to get a free wheelchair. I am new to the special needs. She is the first baby I have ever had that had the issues that she has. I took her in as a emergency placement when she was released from the hospital until they could find another home for her. I totally fell in love with her so when she was moved to the adoption unit she was placed back in my home. Everything I have learned is from reading posts on here and other sites. Thank you all for sharing your experiences.
