I am from south of Calgary. It's nice to know there are a few of us on here. My DH and I are waiting for a homestudy, but I am pretty sure things are going to go through fine. Just waiting..... And waiting..... and waiting....

We are actually doing public adoption through the government. It has been a wonderful journey and really made both of us look closely at our values and what we really want in our lives. We had to do a caregiver orientation training and it was absolutely amazing. A little scary sometimes because the children are all from foster homes and so they have been taken from their families, but the information was so valuable. We were able to meet a few of the home study writers and the people at the offices so we actually knew who we were talking to on the phone. However, because it is public adoption the office does not just deal with adoption so our homestudy gets put near the back of he priority list. Kinship care will get put first and foster parents willing to take teenagers. But we are finishing some home renovations so that could be a blessing in disguise. We are looking for a sibling group between the ages of 4-11 and I think all of our family thinks we are crazy, but that's okay. We are very excited. How about yourself? (Or anyone else on here) I know most people are after babies.
Wow, I admire you! I don't have a strong enough heart to go that route. We are doing a semi-open adoption and we said we prefer age 0-3months. The agency we are with usually deal with moms who are pregnant and havent given birth yet, so there is a chance we would be be able to be right in the delivery room. After we adopt a newborn, we want to adopt an "older" child or sibling group as well.
