I haven't updated you in a while so I thought I'd drop by and say hi! We've had a wonderful time getting to know the e-mom and all her extended family. She is getting induced next Wednesday if baby boy hasn't made his appearance by then. So excited!
Despite going back on Dom and pumping, I'm only up to about 2 ounces a day. Given that I was up to almost 6 a day back when I stopped, this bums me out. Oh well, I know baby boy will do his job and get that production up! :) How is everyone?

Hey ladies - greetings from birthmom's state!
Emom gave birth even sooner than anticipated, 36 weeks and 5 days, yesterday the 7th. We knew she would be induced on Monday, but her condition declined dramatically. Both emom and Baby are amazingly healthy and delivery was quick and easy for them both. Baby weighed 7lbs 8oz.
We made the 17 hour trip overnight, which was very hard! We've been able to visit Baby Girl in the hospital - she's an ANGEL! I am just overwhelmed with love for her. We're visiting again today and then she'll be discharged to us tomorrow under legal risk (another 7 days after discharge). Emom is icredibly strong and has such an amazing support system in her family and friends. Her social worker is also a gem, so great. She doesn't have any second thoughts and seems at peace with everything.
I haven't been able to nurse her yet because everything is so chaotic, but I am looking forward to when she comes "home" to the hotel with us. I have my Lact-Aid all fired up and ready to go!
ANGOMOMMA - my thoughts and prayers are with you as you take this journey! Please keep us updated!
Congratulations on your baby boy, Heather! I have to say that hearing about an interstate adoption brings back some bad memories! It is hard having to be out in public with a newborn! I always tried to carry the baby in a sling or front pack, when we weren't in the hotel room. Everyone wants to see the newborn, which is fine, but I didn't want them getting too close! I was especially thankful that I was able to offer them some breast milk, and the antibodies in it. I hope the hotel room has a decent chair to sit in, for nursing. Trying to sit on a bed, when you are first starting with a newborn is far from ideal. I am glad that the delivery went well, and that he was full size, when he was still almost a month early. Did the birth mom have pre-eclampsia? Keep us posted on how it goes, when you get him to your room. Do you have tape for the tube? It really helps to tape it, when you are just starting out. The pink hairsetting tape is what Jimmie Avery recommended, because it is much easier on the skin than any kind of pharmaceutical tape. Wearing a nursing bra that has a frame that goes all the way around the breast is helpful in keeping the tube where you need it to be. I always found it easier to start out with them in the football hold, because I could see everything better and have more control over the baby's head. The Lact-Aid can be a real pain, to start with, but patience is rewarded! Since you are a second-time mom, I'm sure you will get the hang of it!If there is anything I can do to help out, feel free to email me at noelani54@hotmail.com. I check my email several times a day.Angomom, I am excited for you! I am sure you are on pins and needles, waiting for the phone to ring!Darillyn

Heather, I am so embarassed, I just realized that I got mixed up between your baby and Angomom's and called your girl a boy! Actually, to start with, I had referred to yours as a girl, and then got confused and thought I had it wrong and edited it. I guess this grandma's brain is getting old! Angomom, staying as busy as you can helps make it go by faster, doesn't it? If you run out of baby things to do, another good thing is to get some meals frozen, or put together ingredients or whatever else you can think of that will help you get meals faster after the baby comes home. Anything you can do in advance can help free you up to use any time the baby is sleeping to catch up on your own sleep. Once I finally got home with the baby, I realized how much it had all taken out of me, and how totally exhausted I was. Darillyn
Ladies,
It is with sadness that I share that emom changed her mind on the 4th day, just as baby was ready to be discharged to us. :( We've been home for several days but I didn't want post before Angomomma's induction and cause her any undue worry. We are, of course, utterly devastated after being a part of emom's pregnancy for so long. Even up to two days after she was born, emom showed no emotion or connection to the pregnancy or baby so it was very surprising that all of sudden she decided to parent. I can't relate to being in her position so I won't ever judge or be bitter towards her, but it's still been a very sad loss for us. I am grateful for my son and husband and our extended family, life will certainly be full for us. We will keep baby and her birthmom in our prayers as well. Thank you for your tremendous support during this journey!

Heather, I am so sorry to hear about what happened! It is a very difficult fact of adoption, that this happens so often. In 1995, I traveled to Arizona to pick up a baby girl we had been waiting for. I won't go into details, but I had her for 24 hours and then she was taken back. When it happened to me, I was very thankful that I had kids to go home to, and I am glad that you have your son and a supportive husband. I hope you won't give up on trying to find your baby. I was very fortunate to find the little girl who became my youngest child, a short time after we lost the first baby girl. She was born in Florida where, thankfully, there was no legal risk period. I still have all of the pictures we took of the first baby, and think of her quite often. Please know that there are many of us here who care and understand. Darillyn
