I am wondering.....
....recently i found out i was adopted. My adoption was through Catholic Charities.
I am wondering, if i go to the local CC headquarters, can i easily access my info, OR do i have to go through some type of process?
Is it different in every state or the same? I really want access to my adoption records, but i am afraid it will be a hard process. :hissy:
Also what's with all this i am hearing about CC lying/changing birth dates on records? And hiding info?
Are they really this type of organization, one that lies?

I requested my information through CC about 10 years ago. I had to pay money ($150 or so?) and it took about 6 weeks to receive the information back. They said it took so long because my adoption was older and the records were offsite.
but now I wonder if they can just scan and email
Check your private messages. I sent you a pm a couple of days ago. I have experience with DC / MD CC if you need some help. There IS a process. Of course it depends on if your adoption was finalized in MD or DC and there is a charge,. They will act on your behalf as an intermediary as required by law :wings:

Hmm thanks for the response!
I was adopted through Catholic Charities also (CT). In the late 70's, when I was looking they gave me only non-identifying info. Rules may have changed since that time, I would start there. Even the non-identifying information helped a bit. I finally got more helpful information by going to the town of adoption area and speaking to a sympathetic judge. I would think it is much easier these days to find information out. Good luck!
