Hello,
My name is Douglas. I am new here. I am looking to find my biological grandparents. My father was adopted may 06, 1960. He lives still but my problem lies in that he doesn't want to know, but he has given me permission to seek myself. The problem is his record is closed. Is there any way he could give me Power of Attorney to open the record, or is there a way for him to open it and not find out, for he very greatly does not want to know at all, but I just want an idea, a hint, a name, just to give me the idea of what my ancestry is.
Thank you in advance for your help. This is very important to me and I am finally trying to take matters into my own hands, now that I am 24.
What state was he born in? Each state has different laws and different levels of access.
Kind regards,
Dickons

oops!
He was born in grand rapids, Michigan at sparrow hospital I believe. I forgot that part.
If you know, I will very grateful.
Michigan is one of the states that has different laws for different years. Your dad falls into the bad years.
He (not you) can request specific things.
His non-identifying information.
Mutal Access to Indentifying Information - the opposite side has to have filed a release to the central registry and/or be dead.
To get his birth certificate he has to either have a court order for good cause - i.e. severe illness or the opposite side has to have filed a release to the central registry.
The address to send the requests to is at the bottom of the page in the link below that goes into more detail what I have said above.

You can post a search on the registry on this site (free) (see tab reunite above).
You can register your search with ISRR.net (free)
You might find some clues in the request for non-id and mutual consent - have your dad request any and all info...
Kind regards,
