We are in Passaic county - Got a 3 1/2 year old boy on Thursday......catch is.... mother is expecting can u take the baby too in September?
He is a good boy - definitely needs speech therapy and doesn't know his colours or numbers yet.
I think he was living with grandma as daughter is bi polar and not taking medication and father is substance abuser and criminal record.
They placed him with us with 2 cats - fully aware by our inspection/registration that we have cats and then after I get him registered in daycare and acustomed to things I get a call on Friday that they are going to disrupt the placement because dad says he can't be around cats because he has possible asthma. I think he is trying to be manipulative but we'll see.
He has shown no allergies to the cats whatsoever - he is just very timid of them. Many things can trigger asthma and our house as they are aware is spotless.
DH talked to main supervisor about it and haven't heard a thing back ...so not sure if he's staying or going.
He loves his new daycare and my son so it would be a shame to disrupt already and there are no signs of sneezing or runny nose or anything. We got him on an organic wholesome diet after we were told he was fed complete **** and soda only.
Poor thing told us that he misses his grandma but she would hit him with sticks on his bones.
I guess we will see what happens........

If your willing to keep him and take the baby, I would say push back as much as you can. Its a shame how much these kids unnecessarily get moved around. As I was told once - the biggest advocate for the child is the foster family. Everyone else is just doing their 'job'. While they all may mean well and try to do the right thing I think there are just too many cases out there for them to handle. It sounds like he is comfortable with you in your home and if they move him, who knows if he will be with the new baby or get put back in a situation where he gets hit again. I hope it works out for you. Keep us posted.
I would be cautious about the cat thing, if being reported by the father. I got a call last September for a 1 year old boy. I was going to say yes- but, they needed a home without animals (I have 2 cats). SO, if the allergy thing was really an issue, I would think DYFS would have let you know during the placement call that he needed an animal-free home.
Good luck!

Take him to a pediatrician STAT, and get them to document his allergies/asthma, if any. Let them know what's going on, and that you have no reason to suspect cat allergies. They will document it as such and you can have the records sent to DYFS (the caseworker and the nurse) immediately. I have asthma, and am allergic to cats. Many people who are asthmatic are NOT allergic to cats. There should be no automatic assumption that an asthmatic child cannot be in a home with pets unless the asthma is extremely severe or they have shown symptoms of cat allergies, IMO. I am guessing your pediatrician will agree.
Well FS is still here. DYFS said that he wasn't on any medication or anything for asthma and want to keep him here.
He has had no signs of allergies, while been here for a month.
I like how the bio father said that he cannot be here b/c of the cats, but he has told DYFS that he does not want to take care of his son....go figure.

Well today we lost our little fella......I had told them that I couldn't take the infant as logistically it would be too much for us, but we would love to keep working with our FS until he is RU'd - DYFS was fine with that and approved a vacation next week for him to come with us.
Yesterday, we got a call that they had found a foster mother who would take the baby and our FS. So now our FS has to go to another home and start all over again and god knows how he will react b/c he cannot stand change and was initially self harming himself.
We tried to fight for him to still come on the vacation with us next week and then put him with his sibling (they are half siblings) as it would be a wonderful opportunity for him and they were adamant that he cannot go and he's going to the new foster home right away.
How can you deny a foster child a vacation that will probably be his only vacation in a lifetime? - Lost for words.
My 6 year old bio son took it pretty hard and teared up when he left and kept wishing he was still here and he could put back the time....so now I have had to quickly get over it and just concentrate on my son....there are plenty of kids with issues and I don't want to add my own son to that list now.
Feeling very sad............I hope FS and bio son will be ok.
