I was wondering what is the difference between the two and is one "better"? We have gone through an agency to become foster/adopt, but have heard that others go county.
Is the pay different? Is the resources different?
Thanks!!!
I went through the county. I loved it. I live in a large county so it wasn't bad....I had a great cw....would totally tell a person to go through the county.
BUT
Not every county is like mine and some people like the more personalized attention from an agency....or an agency will work with more than one county and so there may be more matches available for you.
Some counties have biases and prefer to find their "own" families first before going to agencies, however, there aren't enough county families for all their children so it's just what your family prefers.

Ditto on what was already said. We went with an agency instead of the county. This was a good choice for us at first because we use to live in a small neighboring county and we never would have gotten a placement. Now that we are in the bigger county where both our children are from, I wish we would have gone with the county.
Supposedly having the agency would give us more support, but I have found it really to just mean more SWs to visit and lose our paperwork. If we were ready to look for another placement, I would start over with our county.
