I'm late to this (obviously) and I know you said nevermind... but wanted to let you know, depending on the state, it may be "kind of" possible.
My brother's daughter was in FC. I had attempted multiple times to take temp custody of her via discussions with the child's bmom.
Now, 5 years later, brother's daughter calls me "mama" and I'm her permanent caregiver for all intents and purposes.
That being said, yes, I had to become a foster parent to have her come live with me. But since it was a family placement, they made it VERY quick and easy.
Not sure what you got for an answer or from whom, but yes.. this is possible
its easier if you are in the same state/county.
you need to let the CW know about your desire to provide care immidiatelt. if they blow you off, move to supervisor. its a good idea to begin foster licensing training.. it shows you are serious
you'll need to pass a home study. so long as their aren't other family members competing, and you are local, you should have a very good chance
If you are out of state, you need an icpc before the child can be moved across state lines. many agencies won't do this until a tpr (termination of prental rights) has occurred or is emminent.
If you do get the placement, you will need to commit to making the child available for any visitation plans deisgned by dcyf). for me, this involved 4 hour round trip travel with a 2 hour visit in the middle :p
Thanks for the info its always nice to hear from others about there experc. I am doing all that you mentioned in response already so babys attorney said it would be best to wait cuz parents are not doing what they are suppose to do. I have had him since he was 2 days old and he 3 mths old now they dont go back to court until end of sept. and they havent even tried to get unsupervised visits with baby.
