Hi, my husband was adopted and he died a few years back from cancer that was said to be genetic. I would like to find his birth parents for medical reasons for my young son. I have NO IDEA how to start this process. Any help would be most appreciated!
Well, the first step we can take is to look up your late husband in the California Birth Index (CBI). He'll have three listings, one under his mother's maiden name, one under his father's surname, and one under his aparents' names. (If his mother was married, but conceived your husband with another man, he'll have four listings...one under the legal father's surname (mother's husband) and one under the biological father's surname.)
If you'd like me to help, just send me a Private Message (PM) with his date of birth and county of birth...and I'll do a look-up for you. Once we have the last names of both the original parents, we can try some other avenues to track them down.

Hi Ravesong, I PM'd you. Let me know if you need additional info and thanks SO MUCH for offering to help!
I'll look him on the CBI tonight. For some reason, I had a lot of trouble with some serious lag on Ancestry.com last night, so I wasn't able to search. I'll take a look tonight, though.
I'm having trouble getting any response from California Dept. of Children. If anyone can help me - where do I start? - let me know. Thanks!
