Some things they'll check besides being clean, orderly etc:
Hot water temp.
First aid kit
fire extingusher for reg. fire and kitchen fire (white canister)
locked up cleaning supplies
if you are on a well a water test
fire detector on each floor (and preferred to have one in each bedroom)
guns locked up separately from ammo
all electrical outlets have safety plugs in them
one full bathroom with everything working

Oh wow which county are you in? I am hoping mine is in and out too lol my house itself is spotless just a few flaws like disconnected linolium that I will be getting a rug to place over it and the outside isn't very pretty but nothing that should make us not pass it I am just so intimidated by these people!
I'm in Lubbock county. I wouldn't worry about it. THey are looking for dangerous stuff that could harm the children. It should of course be clean ... but no worries. In our home study documents that she filed with the court said, "they are doing some work on the house but it is adequate to meet the needs of the family."

OK good luck!! Post after its over and let me know how it goes....we are just now getting started on the homestudy which will be two visits each $800!! So probably won't get a hearing until November lol...just curious did you have an involuntarily or voluntary relinquishment of parental rights....my 3 yr old biodad never wanted her and said she wasn't his but still unfortunantely for us signed her birth certificate it will be 3 years in october since he has seen her..we don't know where he is an put an ad in the paper but I am told the Guardian Ad Litem will try to contact him but he lives somewhere in Ohio i just hope they don't because he is possesive and probably won't consent I broke it off when I found out I was pregnant because of his possessive behavior and bad temper....just praying we can successfully get this done pro se because I hear mixed answers about what the judge will say...sorry for my long story I was just curious about the TPR
WOW! That is expensive! I paid $400 for one visit and that's all it took. We did a voluntary relinquishment; so no problems there. As for the other thing with the biodad - do whatever you can to contact him. If he becomes possessive and doesn't want to sign - make sure to have back-up to prove how volatile his behavior is. Also, if he hasn't had contact in 3 years and you haven't prevented that - ie not told him about the child etc, that in itself is grounds for termination. GL!
