I read that when adopting from Uganda there are few infants available. Is this true? Has anyone adopted from there? How difficult is the process?
Hi,
We are just starting the process (this will be our fourth adoption but 1st international). My understanding is that the child will stay in care at a babies home for 6 mos in an attempt to find the birth family or Ugandan adoptive family first. So, none younger than 6 mos. But many under 3 yrs.
My husband and I have been to Uganda several times on mission trips. It truly is the "Pearl of Africa" as it is called. The people are beautiful inside and out.
I'd love to hear your experiences on this journey. We are very early in so your movements before us would be greatly welcomed!

Thanks for your help :) I can't wait to start the process. I'm particularly interested in Uganda or Lesotho because there is a need for it, but it is also on the designated list of countries for UK-Intercountry adoption. Keep me updated how your adoption story is going :)
We live in Kampala and are in the process of adopting too. I've spent almost 8 months volunteering in 2 of the babies homes here, and never seen a child under the age of 6 months be adopted out, either domestically or internationally.
Once you have a homestudy completed, you should try to contact one or two of the baby houses. Many of the administrators are happy to speak with prospective parents about the numbers and ages of children available.
Best of luck!
