Assuming that most people on the forum have come under review, to what detail did you send in copies of receipts and expenses for your adoption?
We adopted 4 siblings :laundry: in 2005 Independently from Ukraine. Our facilitator's fees were a third of our total expenses. The US expenses are easier to document than our in-Ukraine expenses.
For those of you who have received your refund, how detailed was your adoption expense documentation? Any independents out there who received a refund?
Our expense register is very detailed, but receipts are not as plentiful.
{To make our return even more complicated, the IRS sent us a notice of a 20% fine on our return (IRC 6662) because I made changes to 8839 on past returns using 1040x due to a misunderstanding on my initial filing. I objected to the fine, but now not only have to defend the adoption, but appeal the illegal fine.}:thanks:
Anyone have advice or help regarding documenting the adoption?
