Hello All,
My husband would love to adopt my children and my ex has agreed, however, it is so expensive!! We have seen on this forum that you can do it yourself, but my question is how when the ex resided in another state? Any input on this would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks in advance!

Hi,
were currently undergoing a stepparent adoption with the BF out of state. You have to serve him papers so you would need to contact the local sheriff where he resides and fax or send the papers to the sheriff and then they will serve him for a small fee. Also in my case I am not sure where the whereabouts of the BF are so all I had to do was cite him in the local paper where the child resides and then you if you do that you will be appointed an Attorney Ad Litem to try and locate him, if they should find him then they serve him and he only has 20 or 30 days to reply if no reply then you can proceed with adoption as normal. Hope I was of any help good luck
