What were some people's experiences with Halloween in foster care? The first foster Home I was in didn't allow my brothers to watch scooby doo or pokemon because of the talking animals and "witchcraft". I imagine she wouldn't have been much for Halloween but we didn't stay there long enough. My next foster home was a Christian childrens home and they would let us dress up and stuff like that but may sure we knew it was just for fun and not about the devils and demons. What about you guys?

bumping this up to day light :D
When DD was my foster kid, we went nuts at Halloween: carving pumpkins, trick or treating, watching movies.
Our local FAPA (foster adoptive parents association) also threw a Halloween party of the kids with crafts, decorations, and treats.
I assume this depends on the FF
Now, as an adult, how do you choose to celebrate the day?

Halloween was always a big deal in our house growing up - my Mom used to make all of our Halloween costumes, until we all were about 10 or so. She went all out for all of the holidays, and made it so much fun.
I don't quite go to the extent that she does, but I do dress the kids up and take them trick or treating, and we carve pumpkins. We usually go with my sisters and their kiddos to a local farm and get pumpkins, but that didn't work out this year.
One of the foster homes my sister was in was a extreme crazy Christian family. My sister was 14 or 15 when she was there so Im not sure about Halloween but they wouldnҒt let her watch most tv shows or movies and hated Harry Potter.
They got really bent out of shape about really normal clothes like baseball hats were crossdressing if girls wore them and said girls could only wear what they said were feminine pants and jeans.
To piss them off she wore stuff they didnt like and said embarrased them in public and in church :). If she wanted to trick or treat she would have. But she was way too old.
I donҒt get why families like that are allowed to be foster parents. if kids are taken by DCFS or CPS or another county or state agency then why do the have to be forced to live with crazy religious wackjobs?
My brother was younger and he says he never had money to buy costumes and always had to wear something stupid. But none of the foster homes he was in stopped him from trick or treating. We were always in separate homes so its weird not knowing about stuff like that and not having those kinds of memories.
