I am wondering what is typically decided at an 18 month permanency hearing. Has anyone had a case that has gone this long wherein they child is not ready to be reunified, but BP is still completing most of her plan?
We are being told everything from "they'll reunify anyway" to "they'll set a termination hearing".
What is up? We don't know if we should plan the holidays WITH the child or WITHOUT him. So confused.
Out of curiosity did you ever get an answer to this question? We are coming up on 12 months and being told it's rare for it to be extended to 18 months, but the way it's looking I am not sure if it's as rare as is being claimed. Parents are 'working' their plan, but still don't have housing and aren't working real hard/fast to get any. I don't think they will terminate because of this and I frankly am not sure how much longer I can sit around with my life on hold to see what may/may not happen.

Lifechanges, it sounds like you and I are about in the same place in the process and with similar progress (or lack thereof) by bio(s). We have our 12 month hearing in a couple of weeks, which will actually be a little more than 14 months since placement. I'll be interested in hearing what happens in your case. I am hoping they will not extend at ours and think that since FD is so young (came into care at not quite 2 years old), they will move toward permanency.
I can hope, right? Best wishes with your kiddos.
@ HDMom - our 12 months is in a couple more months, but bio mom is already saying she doesn't feel she will have a place buy then, but she WILL fight for her kids. I am not sure what I am hoping for, but either way I am hoping they will not extend it so we are sitting in limbo.
Good luck with your FD as well! I am very interested in the outcome, especially because I though under 3 in CA they had to begin TPR at 6 months. Mine are both over 3 so that's a bit concerning to me.
@lifechanges, after we had our little one (we're a non-relative extended family member situation) for about three months, the CW told us they were doing concurrent planning because it appeared they may begin TPR at the six month mark, due to little one's age. At that point, we made the commitment to adopt should that happen. Fast forward to the six month hearing (actually 8 months after removal)... The case was continued because bio mom was attending classes and visits. Now we are coming up on 14 months and another review hearing. I am not sure what will happen, but I will let you know. Is there a way you and I can connect more privately to discuss details? I am a rookie at these message boards.
