Hi there,
I'm single, 40 and looking to adopt. At this stage, international adoption is not something I'm able to consider as I'm not a US citizen. However I'm interested in adopting a child from 0-3 years.
I live in Southern California and have some names of agencies and facilitators. Have been to a few meetings and am still unsure of how sympathetic they are to singles. (They seem sympathetic and willing to help ... but).
So I'm asking for other singles out there to PM with some of their agency experiences. The good and the bad. And also some ballpark figure of costs. I would love to find something local or at least in the state of CA, but will consider out of state if necessary.
Thanks in advance for any information.

Most agencies are fine with singles. Some will have a harder time with your status as a non-citizen, as birthmothers may not be willing to place with someone who could decide to go back to her home country and break off all contact. (Nowadays, most birthmothers want open or semi-open adoptions.)
In general, you will have an easier time adopting from the foster care system, although it may not be easy to find a healthy child in the 0-3 age range. Adoptions from foster care can be free or very inexpensive.
