Have any of you had experience in adopting from Bulgaria? I am wondering about travel and have heard about possible escort on second trip and am wondering how long the process was? My DH and I tried to adopt from foster care and had no success...we switched to another second domestic foster/adopt agency only to have the agency go under. We have 2 bio boys and still want to adopt. We are also looking for the best agency to go with as well...any stories or advice???? I have 2 particular agencies picked out but am not sure about either of them? Thanks!

Just got back from my first trip to meet my daughter. Great country and wonderful place to visit, even when it's snowing. I can say that my first visit was so busy, we didn't get to see much of the country or do much sight seeing. Can't wait to do more of this on the second trip with my daughter. PM me if you want to talk about agencies.
Hello,
I saw your posts and decided to give you some information. I helped all ready to one UK family to adopt child in Bulgaria and now in process of 2nd family to adopt. I just wanted to help them and was thinking that will be a lot more complicated, but in three months after their documents were ready and we gave them in the social department they have adopt two very nice sisters and live with them now more then 1 year. All that they was suppose to pay is about 200euro except the money that they paid for translating their documents on Bulgarian and to collect the needed documents from their countries of residence. This is local adoption, not international and is a lot easier and cost almost nothing. The requirement is that must be at least 6 months living in Bulgaria in own property in condition to allow to adopt, don`t need to be something very special, but to have normal conditions for living.
If anyone want to pm me and I will send him any information I know about the adoption.

Hi all! We are working on adopting from Bulgaria as well. We've identified a little girl from the waiting child list and are finishing up our home study and gathering documents for our dossier-so ready for the paperwork to be done!
We're getting ready to pay a substantial amount to our adoption agency and both my husband and my parents are concerned that we might do all this work and get ready to travel or get over there and be told that the child is not available and there's nothing we can do, or she is available but not at all the same individual we were told about. I can't find any specific stories of this happening, but at the same time, I can't find anything to set my family's mind at ease either. Can anyone help?
In Bulgaria, you send in commitment papers for a child on the SN list or when you receive your referral you accept that referral and that child is held for you while you complete your paperwork. There is no need to worry that your child won't be available when you get there. Benefits of Bulgaria being a Hague country.
Accuracy of the medical reports are a gamble. It helps if you have the files read by an international adoption dr and you have the option of not going forward with the adoption once you have met the child on trip 1. Our agency will allow fees paid to be transferred to a new adoption under some circumstances so we would be out no more than travel expenses for first trip.
Adoption is an act of faith! The children are worth it.
Our son is 6 and came home in Jan 2013. He's doing amazingly well. He was a SN WC but most of his delays seem to be just orphanage delays as he is catching up.
