What Factors Contribute to a Successful Adoption Experience?

If it makes any difference as well, I raised an adult son (now 28 yrs old), and raised 3 step kids (actively in my life at the time, but now not so much, as they are adults), and our adoption of our daughter was with my second marriage, after my son turned 22 and was already out of the household. I dunno, it seems to me, as second time around parent of choice, it seems there is a lot of knowledge and interest in raising a child that has helped from raising my first son completely first.
