We live in CA and are going through a fost/adopt with a 13 yo. We have bio children older than that.
The child asked if they could register at the school with our last name (strong attachment here - long story). Social Services said no (emphatically). Another person said that the child could register with the current name but request that the teachers use our last name when referring to the student. Social Services still responding negatively. Is what the child and I are proposing illegal - or are they just being jerks? I am trying to decide if I should support the child on this position. If it is not illegal and your response is negative, could you help me understand why? :confused:
