My younger brother was given up for adoption at birth. The only things we know are he was born at Beth Isreal Hospital in Newark, NJ, either 1952 or 1953. Birth Mother was Elizabeth Casey. We believe, but not sure that his birth name was Kevin. Any help is much appreciated.
Adoptions back there were either through the state or agency. Through the state was fairly common and was not because the mother did anything wrong - it was just how it was set up (my mother surrendered me to the state). If your brother was surrendered to the state for adoption you should be able to sign up for the NJ Adoption Registry - or at least you will be able to determine if he wasn't (clues are good).

You can also submit I believe to the ISRR.net although without even a month who knows but sometimes the adopted family knew the name. Worth a try and its free.
Search the registry here for matches just enter the year/state and sort though the listings for ones that may match.
Good luck,
Dickons
