Hello,
My husband and I attended orientation for Foster-To-Adopt in Riverside County back on January 27th and have submitted all paperwork required to proceed. We have received confirmation letters from both State Licensing and the County. We have already done the Live Scan for the State - mine came back within a couple of days and we just received a letter that they need 30 days for my husband's due to "insufficient information"...not sure what that is about but we are not worried. In the letter from the County, it stated that our information was received and we would be contacted for our initial interview; however, that has been almost 2 weeks now - does anyone know about how long it takes to get that call? Also - does anyone know about how long it is currently taking to get into the PRIDE classes? We are trying to be patient but are so excited to get through all of the classes, interviews, licensing and just want to be mentally prepared for everything. I have read through different forums on here and it looks like there is a lot of positive feedback for Riverside County, so that makes me feel better. We are hoping to adopt a pair of siblings, preferably age 0-4 and are pretty open to different races. I would love to hear any advice or feedback you may have on the process. Thank you so much!:thanks:

Welcome to Riv county.....I finalized my daughter's adoption Nov. 2010 and actually have been matched and attended a full disclosure on a cute 17 month old girl today and will probably start visits soon.
Anyways I absolutely <heart> Riv. Co. fost/adopt. The process is a lot of waiting and that is the HARD part, but the people seem to be sharp and doing their jobs adequately and have everyone's interests at heart. If there is a number on the letter saying they will contact you for the initial interview, call it, if not, then it's just part of the waiting game. I was told when the next PRIDE classes would be for me to start at the initial interview. Not sure how long it's taking nowadays. I heard things were taking a bit longer after the furlough days kicked in and I had taken my classes right before the furlough days started in 2009....so patience is really going to have to be a virtue unfortunately, but I do love Riv. Co. and am glad to be doing round #2 with them as well.

Hi -
I adopted out of Riverside county. And i have nothing but good thoughts from their social workers. I only had one rather unpleasasnt experience - and that was from one of their public health nurses. She made assumption of me and my family that she said to our faces and they were unfounded and untrue. and that was on pick up/meeting day. But other than that -- it was fabulous!!!
I wish i could do it again through there!! It was a very pleasant experience - and i live in Northern Cali! And I would so do it again with Riverside County.
Welcome KikiJures to Riv. County--We took our pride classes back in 2009-Our process with Riverside has been an long emotional rollercoaster that I wouldn't trade for the world. I have one of the best social workers:) My family and I have learned so much! thats for sure. Like DannieAS said its a long waiting process and the waiting will be the hardest part. Good luck on your journey.

That is so exciting for you, Tam! I wish you the best of luck and a quick transitioning.Just an update...I called Riverside County DPSS and received a call back today that we are on the list of interviews to be scheduled in August and classes to start in September. That is a ways off but am very happy to hear that we will at least get into classes this year. Thanks again for the advice to call as I would have expected to hear something well before August!
We just completed our in-home initial interview with Olive Crest to adopt through Riverside/San Bernardino/Orange County.
We are a little freaked out about the second interview. No real reason to be freaked out, we are both good people, no drugs, no criminal record, been married 10 wonderful years and have a 1 year old son (IVF baby).
The initial interview case worker kind of freaked us out talking about how invasive the interview is.
What kind of questions do they ask?
Has anyone else gone through Olive Crest?

I originally went thru San Bernardino County when I lived in the high desert. No matches, never heard anything. Then I bought a home in Riverside County and had to start the process all over. I went to the Orientation for Riverside County was very disappointed with the way they treated people so I looked elsewhere. After a co-worker successfully adopting and highly recommending Kinship Center, I went with the one out of Redlands. They have been wonderful!!! They are so much easier than going thru the Counties. They register you with San Bernardino, Riverside, Los Angeles, San Diego, and Orange Counties once you have finished everything and are licensed. This gives you 4 times more chances of being matched! They work closely with the counties and the whole process is the same, just 10x's easier!! They make you feel like family and are with you every step of the way. I highly recommend them over the County any day!!I went to orientation on November 30, 2011 and I finished everything April 5th. There is no delay for the classes and they teach them themselves!! The following week was presented with a 9 yo girl, said yes, but they ended up choosing a 2 parent home. Then a week later was presented with a 5 yo girl, was 1 of 3 families they were deciding between...didn't get her. Now on July 10 I was just presented with a 7 yo boy and it looks very promising. Praying non-stop that he is the child God has for me.Good luck with whatever you choose!!
