I have a question and I am wondering if anyone knows the answer.
In (aprox) 1999 my step sister lost custody of her boy to the state of Michigan. I don't think I could even begin to put the complexities of the story down in words because it is just so crazy and long (basically a revenge move from my very cruel and abusive ex - his family still jokes about how he cost us our kids).
Once the state yanked the kids there was never a plan for reunification put in place. No support services were offered and they basically just let my sis float in the wind because she did not know how to fight back.
Well, J turned 18 on 17 April 2012 and of course the possibility of finding him has been on everybody's mind. We have no way of knowing if he was ever adopted or not and the possibility that he has aged out of the system and may have no one for support really scares us.
My question is whether or not the search process would be the same/similar if he was not adopted. I believe he was put in the custody of Catholic Community Services (St Vincent's Home For Children).
I know that there are rules regarding identifying information but if we contacted them (following whatever procedures they require) would they tell us if he was ever adopted or was simply a foster child for life?
I know where my girls are...I have found pictures of them online and I know they are happy and well loved. I know that even if I never have contact with them again they will have a support system that will help them get thru life. We have no such assurances regarding J and are very worried that he may just be "out there" somewhere trying to cope on his own.
Missing, there is no way to know what Catholic Services would do. The records are sealed so it's hard to know.
I would suggest going to FB, or Twitter, to see whats out there. He may see your ad and get in contact.
I wish you the best.
