I have dss kinship custody of a baby, and the baby's mother has asked me to adopt the baby, in an open adoption. I understand in this situation they will sign the Consent for adoption, rather than a relinquishment for adoption. In the Consent scenario, I am reading that the birth mother and father are to be given a copy of the pre-placement assessment. I wonder why on earth this is law? The assessment contains multiple levels of very personal and sensitive information, and in my opinion it jeapardizes our identity and confidential information, that not even our own parents know about us! This makes no sense to me, and I feel VERY uncomfortable about these particular birth parents reading such senstive info, much less carrying around a copy of it, about our family. If the PPA approves us for adoption, after finding no criminal histories or communicable diseases, etc., then why do the birth parents need to read over it? Anybody experience this?
