Overwhelmed

I was adopted at birth in 1977. I really would like to find any birth family members. My adoption is closed, so therefore I have no names..Getting started is very overwhelming. Every time I go to Google to search adoption, I have to fight back tears as there is soo much info. ,yet not much info.. Has anyone had any luck with researching a closed adoption? Has anyone used a search company? I know there is omnisearch, but the reviews are mixed and I do not want to waste 1,500$ on a hoax company... I do not know where to start. ((sigh))
