Contemplating. My wife and I adopted in Texas just last year. We also just moved out of Texas two months ago. We just got a call today that the BM of our adopted girls just had another baby which was immediately taken into care. We have been asked to consider adopting the baby.
Does anyone know how difficult it is to do an interstate adoption with Texas? Does anyone think our odds are pretty good? What would you do?
I don't know the answer to how difficult an interstate adoption with Texas would be, but in answer to your question about what I would do I can honestly say that I would go for it - if you are truly interested.

It will take a few months to do the ICPC process, and I would try to visit during it. You have to do all the backgrounds and homestudy in your state, your state has to approve you, then it gets sent to Texas and they review and approve it, and then you get placement.
If you want the baby, do it, and it will be worth it. I would try to do visits and stuff in the mean time so it isn't a complete shock to the baby. If you have been asked, then I would say the odds are very good and it will just take some time. The faster you start the better.
We are in a similar situation as the orginal poster....we adopted via foster care while living in TX. We now have moved to MO (lived here a year) and got a call about a bio sibling needing a placement. We are NOT currently licensed foster parents. I keep hearing conflicting info on this process. Here's my questions...
1. Should we get licensed as foster/adoptive parents in MO?
2. If we do not get licensed, but placed as a kinship placement, would we qualify for subsidy?
3. We still haven't filled out any paperwork and the case worker is hard to get a hold of....she did say we are the only family pursuing placement.

We are very soon bringing home the bio sibling of our adopted children from Texas. They did not consider us kinship for whatever reason. We had to become licensed foster parents in our state. We started the process in April and the baby comes to us next week.

Amber76, thanks for responding quickly! I had another question.....will either the new sibling or the original kiddos adopted receive a subsidy?
Our adopted child was a toddler when we finalized, so no subsidy. If we adopt the biological sibling, will we then renegotiate her subsidy? Will they both qualify?

I have no idea. Sorry! We haven't even asked as it honestly makes no difference to us at this point. Plus she's young and healthy so I assume she won't get anything.
