My DH and I have two BS, ages 14 and 17. We are currently licensed for either gender ages 0-7. Our licensing worker asked if we would consider raising our age limit above 7 years old.
I recall reading/hearing warnings from foster parents about false sexual allegations being made by foster children against others in the home of the opposite gender. I had purposely set our limit at age 7 for girls to protect our family (bs and dh) from this. Does anyone have experience or advice on age recommendations?
Honestly, it's possible to have false allegations once a child can speak so that's not something I would consider. I could see raising the age limit but not taking children who were sexually abused. That might help a little. You could take neglect or abuse, just not sexual abuse. Just something to consider. There are some great kids who are older and awaiting homes.

I would not raise the age limit, especially for girls. There is a huge need for foster families to take older kids, but sometimes you just can't do it. I also think that because of the age of your boys, you as a family will have a better time dealing with kids under 7 regardless of the gender.
I agree wholeheartedly with CaddoRose and wish I had paid better attention. You can PM me for further info.
