My 2 yrs old daughter & I have waited the 6 months. I'm told all the paperwork is completed & I'm waiting for the paperwork to reach the lawyer. I was hoping that we could get the Sept date. Its been 2 1/2 weeks. Haven't heard from the lawyer yet. How long did it take you & dyfs to get a court date once the paperwork is completed?
It depends. If you want to speed up the process, let them know you will go in front of any judge in NJ. So long as you are willing to travel that may well be the quickest way.
Call your attorney. Find out if they have the paperwork from DCF. It took months, lots of phone calls and finally a court order to get the paperwork to our attorney. Wishing you a much speedier journey. And congratulations!

Thank you. It's not my attorney but one associated w DCF. I don't even know his name (was waiting to be given the info). But now that I know it may take much longer, I'm going to get his name &number. I will also let them know that I'm open to other counties.
They should give you a list of "approved" attorneys. Really, it's just a list of attorneys who will accept the amount of money the state is willing to pay. If you want to PM me, I can give you the name of the attorney I used in 2010.
Thanks. I called today and was given the name of the lawyer. But I was told today that I couldn't change counties and my adoption file may be sitting on the office manager's desk....aargh!
Interesting that things have changed so much since 2010. Does your FD have a GAL or CASA that could, hopefully, speed things along? Or is there a court date where you could ask the judge if there is anything that can be done to move things towards permanency?
How frustrating for you! I'm sorry to hear of your issues. It can be very difficult dealing with the state. My thoughts are with you.

Who told you that you couldn't change counties? The lawyer or DYFS?
I used a lawyer in Burlington because that is where my son is from. Her paralegal called courthouses all over and found me the county with the quickest opening - Camden Co. So that's where he was adopted.
Keep pushing! Keep calling! Who cares if you are a pest. Get 'er done!
