My husband and I were approached by my friend and her husband two and a half years ago about a woman they knew who was looking to place her baby for adoption. About a week prior I had mentioned to this same friend that my husband and I were interested in someday adopting (after our conversation where adoption was brought up because she shared that her husband is an adult adoptee). We met with our son's first mother soon after and we just clicked. She chose us to be parents to her little boy. We found a lawyer who walked us through the process and the adoption was finalized almost two years ago.
Our family has become well known in our area (our son is Bi-racial and we are Caucasian which lends us to stand out a bit from the families where the parents and children are the same skin tone). Our adoption story has been talked about by many. Since then another family had heard our story and had contacted us about adopting their Bi-racial baby girl who was just born that week. Soon after they decided to parent. During that time my husband and I had gotten excited about the idea of having another child and now we would like to get the ball rolling on expanding our family.
We decided domestic infant adoption, preferably bi-racial, is the way we would like to proceed. We would like to specify gender. (Has anyone done this? Since this adoption will probably be the last we can afford, we would like to specify that we are looking to add a daughter to our family. Any info/ideas on this would be great!) We have an orientation this week with Bethany Christian Services, but don't know if this agency is where we belong. Since scheduling our appointment, I have heard some negative things about them. Then again, I can't seem to find an agency who doesn't have negative reviews.
Since both times prior we were approached about a child and now we are the ones searching, we are so confused. I know any information about agencies and facilitators must be discussed through PM's so I guess I am looking for anyone who would kindly share any advice or information from their adoption experience(s). Any guidance would be SO appreciated! Thank you so much for your time!
