Our 3yr old son had an MRI of the brain to rule out neuro-muscular issues due to flexibility of his extremities. The MRI came back with abnormal results, and we were told we should consult with a pediatric neurologist to learn more about what the radiology findings were (dilation around the blood vessles). When I started researching (yay www) I found a lot of information on migraines... and under that, about low levels of seratonin and dialation in the blood vessles so the seratonin could be produced and distributed through the brain. (which is what the OT says is the basis behind SPD--which our son was diagnosed with). When I looked more into different possible conditions dilation could be--I found a site that listed all types of neuro degenerative diseases (which sounded scary but not my son) and with it was listed as something like "and in children it is typically found to be autism like brain".
I'm not overly concerned (his ped said it was a common finding but that it was worth getting more information on). I am however curious as to whether anyone who has a child on the autism spectrum has ever heard this or experienced it. (having an MRI with the results of dilation surrounding the blood vessles).
Thanks a bunch!! Can't wait to see a neuro and find out more details. I feel like knowledge is power and I want to be the most powerful ally for my son's future!!
