When the state (TX) decides on us for the family to provide for the children in our relative's custody case (they are removing her parental rights) do they send the children to us, or do we go pick up the children? I know it seems like a basic question but Texas is a huge city and we're anxious to bring the 3 kids home.
It usually depends on the State! Some states with relative placements have the family come pick up the children and their worker will travel with the kids then return back after the children are in the receiving state... They pay for the worker and kids transportation only! Then other states line up the move and pay all traveling expenses! It depends also if your granted custody/guardianship of the kids or if they are placed as an adoption placement. Alot of factors can come into play. ICPC has to be filed and approved before the kids can even move out of the state so once they determine the placement options for your relatives if placed with you I would then start talking to their worker to determine what kind of moving expenses they will cover.
I hope this helps and good luck with your relatives!

Oh ghee! Well, both us and the kids are Texas but we're quite a few hours away from each other. So I guess the answer is: it can go either way. We can go get them or the state can bring them to us?
We've had the homestudy done already. I don't know if that much matters? The state will be revoking the mom's rights this month and this will be an adoption by us, not foster or guardian. We're trying to gather as much info as possible but the holidays are making it a bit hard which is why I'm here on the forums. I don't mind traveling at all, just trying to get our ducks in a row.
I am also in Texas. I live five hours from my dd's birthparents and her caseworker brought her to me. She was brought to me originally as a kinship placement after spending 9 months with her foster parents.
Her birthparents relinquished rights a month or so after her placement, right before their TPR trial was about to take place.
By pick them up, do you mean the one time move? Or coordination of visitation/court appearances?
While everything varies form state to state, I've not seen an occasion where the court would "deliver" kids to their new home. its seems it would be less traumatic for the kiddos to travel with their new family
When I got custody of my relative, I transported her home. Furthermore, I was responsible for monthly visits back to her original state until TPR
it was a huge commitment, but she was sooo worth it
Good luck
