Hi. I'm new to this forum but my husband and I have considered adoption for a few months now. We have 3 boys (16, 14, 10), and a daughter turning 2. We saw a little girl our daughters age from Taiwan with mobility needs on a photo listing who really pulls at our heart strings. However, our daughter is used to our devoted attention, and that little girl probably also deserves to have someone completely enamored with her also. We don't want to set up competition and jealousy. Or maybe the 2 girls would be very close and be best friends. We have no idea.
Would it be better to look into adopting a younger baby, so our daughter can be the "big sister". Or with the gap between our two year old and 10 year old, would an in between age be better? Again though-our toddler wants to be babied and an older adopted child would need and deserve equal attention and love. We want to help a child in need, and we want our daughter to have a sibling close enough to her age to be good friends with her. The new child would share a room with our daughter.
We don't know whether to do foster care adoption (NH)-though there are no young children currently available for adoption in our state, or international adoption, or domestic infant adoption. The expenses of private adoption and the red tape and uncertainty in fostering to adopt scare us. Any advice?
