I've tried to use the search features, because I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I am giving up and asking again!
Does anyone have any good resources about PTSD, attachment, post-institutionalized children, etc., to provide to teachers? Kiddo hasn't been diagnosed with RAD, but he does have some attachment-related behaviors (mostly manipulation and an extreme aversive reaction to positive reinforcement).
Because he was diagnosed with autism (we actually think this was institutional behavior/PTSD/language delay), he is receiving ABA and a behavior plan is being developed. Except, the behavior specialist does not understand that positive reinforcement causes him SO much anxiety, he has a PTSD meltdown most of the time when he gets close to receiving the reward or immediately after receiving it. And, he couldn't care less if you're "happy" or "sad" about his behavior choices.
They also have done some google searching RAD and PTSD, which turned up many articles that stated caretakers should be nurturing and affectionate with children with attachment issues...which I need them to understand means PARENTS, not teachers and school staff.
We are looking for a psychologist who recognizes these issues, but the only one we've found semi-locally (2.5 hrs away) can't get us in for 5 months, and I need some "back up" with school now. Right now, I'm just the "crazy" parent who doesn't want them to reward her child or let him show his affection by hugging everyone he sees in the hall :(
There was a post here not too long ago that I found helpful. Here's the link:

One of the links that I found especially helpful was this Letter to Teachers:

Glad you found that helpful, minibus! I need to revisit that site for more info and to forward to some of my kid's other teachers (music, art, etc.). His core teachers are really trying, but the others are just not getting it.
OP - I hope you find that site as helpful as minibus and I have found it to be!
I really like the letter from the Nancy Thomas site. Kiddo doesn't have RAD, just attachment "issues," but I think it gives enough examples of what to do that are appropriate, regardless. Thanks!
