We have been looking at the foster system to ultimately adopt, but we are learning foster to adopt is not for the faint of heart. We are looking at all options and I thought I would find out more about private adoptions since I pretty much know nothing about them.
Can you get older children from private adoptions (ages 3-8)?
Where do these children come from, what is their history?
Is private adoption where you post a family biography with an agency and have someone choose you?
Do you have time to find out about the child and make an informed decision about whether or not they should come into your home?
I know there is more cost involved, how much would a private adoption of an older child cost? What are the specific expenses?
I have never researched domestic private adoptions before so any information is good information for me.
Thanks!
Private domestic adoption is generally of newborns or at least infants. I have heard of one person adopting an older child privately, but it was a very unusual situation (terminally ill single parent with no family). I do know that some private agencies work with the state foster system to place older children for adoption, but you would still be adopting from foster care.

Yeah - I figured that out as I looked around. If we want an older child we will need to go through the foster system.
I'm having the same feelings as you - it's not for the faint of heart to go foster-to-adopt. My main thoughts were on expenses but also whether I could handle a newborn being elgally blind - I can see, though, so I probably could...but what's the oldest a private agency would have? When you say "infants" are you talking a year or younger?
